Middle Pillar presents
an amazing debut for Sumerland, a new American esoteric-wave
band, coming from Oregon. They set to the public, offering a
repertory rich of irresistible passions and enigmatic melodies.
Deep and virtuous musical roots which remind us green incense's
monoliths, looking like Swans, David Sylvian and This mortal
coil.
Comparisons not ventured, and that are demonstrated from the
first listening; an important inheritance, but increased also
by personal inspiration's band. The band is composed by Dorien
Campbell (voice and keys), David Gibson (bass), Marshall Serna
(keyboards) and Enrique Ugalde ( drum, guitar and voice). Dorien's
voice ravishes senses with his baritone and evocative timbre,
fitting well esoteric atmospheres subjects. Besides Dorien takes
care of lyrics drawing up, including in them delirious and ardent
visions of infinitive vital circles, of fire's decadent temples,
of indissoluble transcendental connections.
Music and atmospheres are temperamental and vary in intensity,
Enrique's tribal percussions offers solemn excursions through
Zaratustra's instrumental reborn, between the ecstatic "Glorious"
and "Begones to the new heaven", in "Mother Earth"
as also in the very long and epic "Crimson Tree".
Notable guitar's arrangements always brilliant and dreamy in
every track, able to evocate intense memories. Keyboards and
bass gives mesmerise and esoteric forms to "The blessings
of Morpheus" and to the melancholic "Exalted City"
(here Sylvian is a really close shadow). Eleven
tracks to go on through intense tonality of the most noble and
mysterious intuitions.
Sivo is the magic door. |
