COLLECTION D'ARNELL-ANDRÉA
Villers-Aux-Vents |
Prikos brings to
the present romantic cold-wave seductions by Collection of 1994,
when this mythical band had reverbs of the Cocteau Twins and
a sonic soul, daughter to 4AD.
Chloé and companions, in this album rich in melancholy
and elegiac breezes, "photograph" moods and feelings
of the "Great War". The sighs of the trench, the distance
from the beloved reality, the breath of death, the image of
mercy in the faces of the soldiers, the cold anguish, the depressing
tactics.
All this is included in these 11 tracks (+ 2 live videos!) of
"Villers-aux-Vents", where arches and keyboards blow
algid omens, guitars chase ultraviolet hopes, and the rhythms
emphasize flashing frightened hearts. From gloomy skies to deep
gashes, the angelic voice of Chloé emphasizes every hesitation
and balances every ardour, the poetry of the gesture, the outcry
of salvation, the melodic ancestral chronicle.
While listening, we discern different levels or composing groups...
Enervated and spiny autumn damnations for "Les Cendre-Lisières",
"Aulne ET the Mort", "Chemin DES Dames"
and "Deafening Breath". Ancient ethnic contaminations
and lunar spice in: "Les Hauts De Meuse", "Les
Parvis Déserts" or "Verdum". Fervent darkwave
flares in "Ravin DES Fontaines" and "the Cendre-remixes";
ritualistic ruins for "the Ornière". A reprint
that makes one ponder, also
because it is sad to think that such sonorities are no more.
Unbreakable melancholic afflictions. |
